Doctor Doom first appeared in Fantastic Four #5 (July 1962), created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Victor Von Doom was a brilliant student at Empire State University, where his roommate was Reed Richards. An experiment to contact his deceased mother scarred his face, and Doom blamed Reed. He traveled to Tibet, learned sorcery, forged his iconic armor, and conquered his homeland of Latveria.
Doom is unique among villains because he genuinely believes he's the hero. In his mind, only he has the intelligence and will to save humanity from itself. He's seen futures where his rule brings peace and prosperity. His ego is his greatest strength and weakness—he cannot accept that anyone, especially Reed Richards, might be his equal or superior.
