The Daywalker
Blade first appeared in Tomb of Dracula #10 (July 1973), created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan. Eric Brooks was born in a London brothel in 1929 when a vampire attacked his mother during childbirth. The vampire's bite gave Eric all of their strengths—enhanced senses, healing, strength, and immortality—but none of their weaknesses to sunlight or garlic. He became the Daywalker.
Blade dedicated his life to hunting vampires, particularly Deacon Frost, the vampire who killed his mother. Armed with silver stakes, garlic, UV weapons, and his signature sword, Blade has killed thousands of vampires. He's worked with the Midnight Sons, MI-13, and even the Avengers. His half-vampire nature makes him immune to vampire bites and hypnosis.
Wesley Snipes' portrayal of Blade in the 1998 film is credited with launching the modern superhero movie era, predating X-Men and Spider-Man. The Blade trilogy grossed over $400 million and proved that comic book movies could be successful with R-rated content. Blade's legacy in both comics and film is legendary.
