The Master of Magnetism
Magneto first appeared in X-Men #1 (September 1963), created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Born Max Eisenhardt in Germany, he survived the Auschwitz concentration camp as a child—an experience that shaped his worldview forever. After the war, he discovered his mutant powers and eventually took the name Erik Lehnsherr, then Magneto.
Magneto's philosophy is simple: never again. He believes mutants are the next step in human evolution and will inevitably face persecution like the Jews in Nazi Germany. Unlike his friend Charles Xavier, who dreams of peaceful coexistence, Magneto believes mutants must dominate or be destroyed. His methods are extreme, but his motivations are tragically understandable.
