The Man Without Fear
Daredevil first appeared in Daredevil #1 (April 1964), created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett. Matt Murdock was blinded as a child when he pushed a man out of the path of a truck carrying radioactive chemicals. The chemicals splashed in his eyes, destroying his sight but enhancing his remaining senses to superhuman levels. He developed a "radar sense" that lets him perceive his surroundings in ways sighted people cannot.
Matt became a lawyer to fight crime legally, but when the system failed, he became Daredevil to fight crime his own way. He protects Hell's Kitchen, New York's most dangerous neighborhood, from criminals the law can't touch. His rogues gallery includes Kingpin, Bullseye, Elektra, and The Hand. His Catholic faith creates constant moral conflict between his violent methods and his beliefs.
Frank Miller's legendary run in the 1980s transformed Daredevil from a B-list hero into one of Marvel's most complex characters. Miller introduced Elektra, expanded Kingpin's role, and explored Matt's psychological darkness. The "Born Again" storyline, where Kingpin destroys Matt's life, is considered one of the greatest comic stories ever written.
