Soldier from the Future
Cable first appeared (as a baby) in Uncanny X-Men #201 (1986) and as an adult in New Mutants #87 (March 1990), created by Louise Simonson and Rob Liefeld. His convoluted origin involves being sent to the future as an infant to save him from the techno-organic virus, then returning as a battle-hardened warrior to prevent the dark future he grew up in.
Nathan Summers is the son of Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey), making him genetically one of the most powerful mutants ever born. His potential rivals the Phoenix Force itself, but the techno-organic virus that constantly threatens to consume him forces him to use most of his power just to stay alive.
Cable transformed the New Mutants into X-Force, bringing a military approach to mutant heroics. His relationship with Deadpool became one of comics' great odd-couple partnerships. His time-traveling adventures have made him central to X-Men continuity, connecting past, present, and multiple futures.

MCU: Josh Brolin's Cable
