The Darkness Within
Cloak first appeared in Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #64 (March 1982), created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan. Tyrone Johnson was a runaway from Boston who met Tandy Bowen (Dagger) in New York City. Both were kidnapped and used as test subjects for a new synthetic drug, which triggered their latent mutant (later retconned to mutate) abilities.
The experiment transformed Tyrone into a living conduit to the Darkforce Dimension, a realm of absolute darkness. His body became intangible, wrapped in a cloak that serves as a portal to this dimension. The darkness within him constantly hungers, feeding on the life force of those he engulfs. Only Dagger's light can satisfy this hunger without harming others.
Cloak and Dagger's mission has always been personal: protecting runaways and fighting drug dealers. Their origin as victims of exploitation drives their crusade. Tyrone's struggle with his darkness—both literal and metaphorical—represents themes of addiction, trauma, and redemption that give the characters unusual depth.

Live-Action: Freeform Series
Aubrey Joseph portrayed Cloak in the Freeform series "Marvel's Cloak & Dagger" (2018-2019), which ran for two seasons. The show reimagined the characters as New Orleans teenagers connected by a Roxxon Corporation disaster. While critically acclaimed, the series was cancelled, leaving their MCU status uncertain.
With Marvel Studios consolidating its television properties, Cloak and Dagger could be reintroduced in the MCU proper. Their street-level focus and supernatural powers would fit well with characters like Daredevil and Ghost Rider. The Darkforce Dimension has already been referenced in the MCU through Agent Carter and Doctor Strange.
INVESTMENT ALERT: Spectacular Spider-Man #64 (first Cloak & Dagger) remains affordable compared to other first appearances. Their potential MCU reintroduction and unique visual design make them speculation targets. The light/dark duality provides striking card art opportunities.
