The Unbeatable Hero
Squirrel Girl first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #8 (Winter 1992), created by Will Murray and Steve Ditko (in one of his final Marvel works). Originally introduced as a comedic character who defeated Doctor Doom in her debut, Doreen was largely forgotten until her 2005 revival in the Great Lakes Avengers.
Her 2015 solo series, "The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl" by Ryan North and Erica Henderson, transformed her into a cult phenomenon. The series emphasized her computer science studies at Empire State University, her friendship with her roommate Nancy Whitehead, and her unique approach to heroism: befriending villains rather than just punching them.
What makes Squirrel Girl remarkable is her canonical victories against seemingly unbeatable foes. She's defeated Thanos (confirmed by the Watcher), Galactus (by befriending him), Doctor Doom (multiple times), MODOK, Deadpool, and countless others. These victories happen "off-panel" as a running joke, but they're considered canon—making her arguably Marvel's most powerful hero.

Live-Action: New Warriors and Beyond
Milana Vayntrub was cast as Squirrel Girl for a planned "New Warriors" TV series that was ultimately cancelled. The show would have been a comedy focusing on young heroes, perfectly suited to Squirrel Girl's tone. Despite the cancellation, Vayntrub's casting generated significant fan excitement.
Squirrel Girl remains a strong candidate for MCU introduction, particularly as Marvel explores more comedic properties. Her popularity with younger readers, positive messaging, and unique power set make her ideal for a Disney+ series or animated project. Her computer science background also makes her relatable to modern audiences.
INVESTMENT ALERT: Squirrel Girl cards benefit from cult comic popularity and MCU potential. Marvel Super-Heroes #8 (first appearance) has seen significant appreciation. Her undefeated record and positive fan reception make her a strong candidate for eventual adaptation. The character appeals to collectors seeking unique, fun additions.
