From Soviet Experiment to Cosmic Guardian
Cosmo first appeared in Nova #8 (January 2008), created by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning during their legendary cosmic Marvel run. His origin pays homage to real Soviet space dogs like Laika, but with a fantastical twist. Launched into orbit during the Soviet space program, Cosmo's capsule drifted through a cosmic anomaly that granted him incredible psychic powers.
Eventually, Cosmo found his way to Knowhere, the severed head of a Celestial that serves as a port of call at the edge of the universe. There, he became the station's chief of security, using his telepathic abilities to maintain order among the diverse alien species that pass through. His Russian accent and dog-like personality make him one of Marvel's most endearing cosmic characters.
Despite his cute appearance, Cosmo is no pushover. His telepathic powers rival those of the most powerful psychics in the Marvel Universe, and he has proven instrumental in several cosmic conflicts. He played a key role in the Annihilation: Conquest event and has been a steadfast ally to the Guardians of the Galaxy.
