The First Agent
Peggy Carter first appeared in Tales of Suspense #77 (May 1966), created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Originally introduced as a World War II resistance fighter and Steve Rogers' wartime love interest, Peggy's role expanded dramatically over the decades. She became the emotional anchor of Captain America's origin story.
In the comics, Peggy was eventually revealed to be Sharon Carter's aunt (later retconned to great-aunt), connecting generations of Carter women to Captain America's story. Her work with the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) during the war laid the groundwork for what would become S.H.I.E.L.D.
The MCU elevated Peggy from supporting character to icon. Her determination to be taken seriously in a male-dominated field, her competence under pressure, and her unwavering moral compass made her a role model. The "Agent Carter" TV series explored her post-war adventures, showing how she helped shape the modern Marvel Universe.

MCU: From Love Interest to Legend
Hayley Atwell first appeared as Peggy Carter in "Captain America: The First Avenger" (2011). Her chemistry with Chris Evans and her refusal to be a damsel in distress made her an instant fan favorite. She appeared in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" as an elderly Peggy, providing emotional closure to Steve's story.
The "Agent Carter" TV series (2015-2016) gave Peggy her own adventures, exploring her post-war life and the founding of S.H.I.E.L.D. "What If...?" introduced Captain Carter—a version of Peggy who received the super-soldier serum instead of Steve. This variant has become so popular that she appeared in live-action in "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness."
INVESTMENT ALERT: Agent Carter cards benefit from Hayley Atwell's beloved portrayal and Captain Carter variant popularity. Tales of Suspense #77 (first appearance) is a significant Silver Age key. Her connection to Captain America adds romance collector appeal. Any Captain Carter project would spike values significantly.
