NIGHTCRAWLERKURT WAGNER
The swashbuckling teleporter with the soul of a saint. Kurt Wagner looks like a demon—blue fur, pointed ears, a prehensile tail, and only three fingers on each hand—but possesses one of the purest hearts in the Marvel Universe. His ability to teleport in a burst of brimstone smoke makes him one of the X-Men's most valuable members. His devout Catholic faith, despite his demonic appearance, creates one of comics' most compelling character studies.

The Fuzzy Elf
Nightcrawler first appeared in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (May 1975), created by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum. He was part of the "All-New, All-Different X-Men" that revitalized the franchise. Kurt Wagner was born in Bavaria, Germany, to the shapeshifter Mystique (though this wasn't revealed until much later). His demonic appearance caused villagers to attack him, leading to his rescue by Professor Xavier.
Despite his frightening appearance, Kurt is one of the most optimistic and good-natured X-Men. His Catholic faith is central to his character—he genuinely believes in redemption and sees his appearance as a test of faith rather than a curse. He even briefly became a priest. This spiritual dimension makes him unique among superhero characters.
Kurt's swashbuckling personality—inspired by Errol Flynn—adds levity to the often-serious X-Men. He's an accomplished acrobat and fencer, skills that complement his teleportation perfectly. His famous "BAMF" sound effect when teleporting has become iconic in comics, and his catchphrase "Unglaublich!" (German for "Incredible!") reflects his enthusiastic nature.

Live-Action: White House Attack
Alan Cumming portrayed Nightcrawler in "X2: X-Men United" (2003), delivering one of the most celebrated sequences in superhero cinema. The White House attack scene—where a mind-controlled Kurt teleports through Secret Service agents—remains a masterpiece of action choreography. Cumming brought depth to Kurt's spiritual struggle and gentle nature.
Kodi Smit-McPhee played a younger Kurt in "X-Men: Apocalypse" (2016) and "Dark Phoenix" (2019), showing the character's journey from circus performer to X-Man. With Marvel Studios now controlling the X-Men, Nightcrawler is certain to appear in future MCU projects. His visual distinctiveness and beloved status make him a priority character for the franchise.
INVESTMENT ALERT: Nightcrawler cards benefit from iconic X2 scene and guaranteed MCU inclusion. Giant-Size X-Men #1 (first appearance) is one of the most valuable Bronze Age keys. His visual uniqueness makes him a standout in any X-Men adaptation. Any MCU X-Men casting would significantly boost interest.
