The Immortal Iron Fist
Iron Fist first appeared in Marvel Premiere #15 (May 1974), created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. He was part of Marvel's 1970s martial arts craze, inspired by the popularity of Bruce Lee and kung fu films. Danny Rand was a wealthy American who discovered the mystical city of K'un-Lun after his parents died in the Himalayas.
In K'un-Lun, Danny trained for years in martial arts, eventually earning the right to challenge Shou-Lao the Undying—the dragon whose heart powered the Iron Fist legacy. By defeating the dragon and plunging his fists into its molten heart, Danny gained the power to focus his chi into his fist, making it "like unto a thing of iron."
The Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction "Immortal Iron Fist" series (2006-2009) revolutionized the character, revealing a legacy of Iron Fists throughout history and expanding the mythology of the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven. This run is considered one of the best martial arts comics ever published and significantly increased the character's popularity.

MCU: Netflix and Beyond
Finn Jones portrayed Danny Rand in Netflix's "Iron Fist" (2017-2018) and "The Defenders" (2017). While the series received mixed reviews, it introduced the character to a wider audience and established his partnership with Luke Cage. The show explored K'un-Lun mythology and the Hand organization.
With Netflix characters returning to the MCU (Daredevil, Kingpin, Punisher), Iron Fist's MCU future is a major speculation target. A recast or continuation with Finn Jones remains possible. The Heroes for Hire concept—pairing Iron Fist with Luke Cage—is a fan-favorite demand. The mystical martial arts angle fits perfectly with the MCU's expanding supernatural corner.
