GREEN GOBLINNORMAN OSBORN
Spider-Man's greatest enemy. Norman Osborn is a brilliant industrialist driven mad by his own Goblin Formula, transforming him into the cackling, pumpkin-bomb-throwing Green Goblin. He killed Gwen Stacy, discovered Peter Parker's secret identity, and has tormented Spider-Man for decades. Willem Dafoe's iconic portrayal across multiple films has cemented the Green Goblin as one of the greatest comic book villains ever adapted to screen, with his "No Way Home" return being a masterclass in menace.

The Original Spider-Man Villain
Green Goblin first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #14 (July 1964), created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. His identity was initially a mystery—readers didn't know who was behind the mask until Amazing Spider-Man #39-40 revealed Norman Osborn, father of Peter Parker's friend Harry. This revelation made the conflict deeply personal.
The Goblin Formula that gave Norman his powers also drove him insane. His split personality—the calculating businessman and the maniacal Goblin—makes him unpredictable and terrifying. Unlike villains motivated by money or ideology, the Green Goblin is driven by obsession with Spider-Man and a twisted desire to prove his superiority.
"The Night Gwen Stacy Died" (Amazing Spider-Man #121-122, 1973) remains one of comics' most shocking moments. The Green Goblin kidnapped Gwen Stacy and threw her from the George Washington Bridge. Spider-Man's webbing caught her, but the sudden stop broke her neck. This story changed comics forever, proving that heroes couldn't always save everyone and villains could truly win.

MCU: Willem Dafoe's Legendary Performance
Willem Dafoe first portrayed Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" (2002). His performance—switching between the sympathetic Norman and the terrifying Goblin—set the standard for comic book movie villains. The mirror scene where Norman argues with his Goblin reflection remains iconic. His death impaled on his own glider was a fitting end.
Dafoe's return in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021) exceeded all expectations. Freed from the restrictive mask, Dafoe delivered an even more menacing performance. His brutal fight with Tom Holland's Spider-Man and his manipulation of the multiverse villains proved why Green Goblin is Spider-Man's greatest foe. The "strong enough to have it all" speech is instantly quotable.
INVESTMENT ALERT: Green Goblin cards benefit from Willem Dafoe's legendary performances and villain status. Amazing Spider-Man #14 (first appearance) is a major Silver Age key worth thousands. His Dark Reign/Iron Patriot storyline offers additional adaptation potential. Any future Norman Osborn casting would generate massive speculation.
