From Falcon to Captain America
Sam Wilson first appeared as the Falcon in Captain America #117 (September 1969), created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan. He was one of the first African-American superheroes in mainstream comics, and the first to not have "Black" in his name. Sam was a social worker from Harlem who gained the ability to communicate with birds and later received a winged flight suit from Black Panther.
For decades, Sam was Steve Rogers' partner and best friend. They fought side by side through countless battles. When Steve was aged and could no longer carry the shield, he chose Sam to succeed him. Sam became Captain America in 2014, facing both external threats and internal doubts about whether he was worthy of the mantle.
What makes Sam's Captain America unique is that he's not a super-soldier. He doesn't have enhanced strength or speed. He's just a man who believes in the dream—that America can be better than it is.
